Most drone companies don't build their own motors because fabricating and assembling the components requires specialized, costly equipment and processes. There are also intricate electromechanical design decisions unique to each motor (stator geometry, winding pattern, air gap, magnet and steel thickness). The remaining components (bell cover, shaft, mounting plate, etc) are fairly simple, but still carry several design decisions that can be optimized for different drones.

Most motor companies make all these decisions for you to create general-purpose motors that maximize the likelihood a range of drones will find it useful. Thus, they make all design decisions, however minor, leaving you to accept the result.

We're turning this model on its head and opening the black box that is drone motor design. We're open sourcing the component-level drawings for the most popular drone motors so that you can make the design decisions so we build exactly what you need.

We're here to help every step of the way. When you're ready, we'll review and fine tune the specs, fits, and tolerances, DFM, and cost considerations in order to bring your motors to life in just a couple weeks.
